Peter Bale - curated media and journalism news - Cuomo, misinformation, and more
As you know from my earlier notes I have a low opinion of the on-air talents of Chris Cuomo even before his latest ethical breaches. He reminded me of a story about Roger Ailes watching 24-news with the sound off because he wanted to see which presenters caused him to turn up the volume: I suspect Chris knew that story which is why he looked like he was having a fit at all times, over all stories, no matter how important.
Speaking of news presenters rather than journalists: Lara appears to have gone deep off the end of the metaphor-simile bridge with a Nazi comparison for Fauci that blows up Godwin's Law and affirms it. I worked with Lara briefly in South Africa, and she has had times no one would wish her to have and showed immense courage. This, however, is a bit bonkers..
Interesting government-sponsored analysis of how even the wackiest conspiracy theories spread in New Zealand. I fear that inherent distrust of the media feeds this in certain areas and I am not convinced the media has worked out a recipe to address the absence of trust or access to truth.
Only partly about media but the question for journalists in the US is how they cover politics in a way that exposes just how aberrant Trump is.
This person was brave and badly let down by the journalists at The Intercept. I am involved in a whistleblower support group that has given her some help and I know it is costly and hard.
I love the photograph on this story that has Anna Wintour in full Devil Wears Prada get up. I am not convinced that other in areas of editorial and pictorial quality that she can carry the product-thinking necessary.
If it works this seems a sensible and transparent way to secure funding and use it effectively to support local journalism.
This is another way to do it and some of you know I was involved in setting up the programme. It has moved a little from what was envisaged but it too is transparent and clear about its intent.
