Peter Bale - curated media, journalism, and related technology news - Issue #18
Slightly amusing The Guardian gets its revenge in early with a "could". However, I suspect the report will give a fresh clue as to why Murdoch was persuaded to go so far as to close the News of the World, beyond what we already know. It may have been worse than dodgy journalism.
Adding this partly because I thought it was an exceptionally good interview and Andrew Neil opened up quite amusingly. On the other hand, having seen some of the disinformation spouted by Dan Wootton on GB News I have to wonder if Andrew's claim not to spread conspiracies is correct.
Jack takes a line media people seldom admit to doing but often, in fact do, blame the readers.
Ben is very wise on these matters and bothers to make his arguments clearly and at length. I find I shift my hot-take opinions when I read him.
Adding this just because it is a sensational piece of philosophy-dressed-as-journalism. George Packer is a fine journalist and an annoyingly productive author and though this is long it is to me a really good analysis of where the US and by some extrapolation the rest of us have arrived.
