More unfortunate news from Hong Kong and I have to wonder how much longer the South China Morning Post can maintain its relative independence. It must be hard to be there at the moment with all going on around it and Jack Ma being PNG with the CCP.
Axios is, to my eyes, the most innovative media company in the US, particularly in its determination to stick to a formula and a style guide. Like Politico before it, it maintains a focus rare in publishing. The newsletter approach makes a smart, low-cost, way to serve smaller markets.

First C4, next the BBC to be ruined by the Conservative government. C4 has been an innovative public broadcaster, funded in part by advertising, and its news in particular -- run for them by ITN -- has been excellent.
Some good thinking in here, particularly in my view the importance of what content is distributed free. I am not convinced all publishers can or should go subscription. It very much depends on markets, competition, quality and the overall business goals. I am conscious of Reuters Institute research suggesting very few people subscribe to more than one publication.
Depressing that it gets to this. The anti-lockdown, "let-em-all-die" school of Covid nutters has a big crossover with the extreme Brexit people.
Good reminder for liberal-minded journalists not to underestimate GB News and a couple of the troopers behind it, even if they have recruited a bunch of crazies who give the lie to the idea it's not about conspiracies.
Some people might not know what the Zapruder film (despite the certainty they will have seen parts of it over and over again) but what an achievement it clearly was for this reporter to get it.

I am not 100-percent convinced by this but I am convinced we need a much more justice and law reporting slant instead of the obsession with crime and crime reporting. However, court reporting is essential.
