I support Newsroom in this. The overreach by state lawyers is extraordinary in a country that supposedly ranks just below Scandinavian states in the RSF press freedom index. It is going too far (to my mind).
This is a bit inside baseball but it illustrates that he is just an actor and it is all entertainment for specific audiences and performance. It isn't journalism as I know it and try to practice it but I am not that sort of person.

People who know me know that I did a consultancy at CGTN. The idea was I would work full time at some stage. I realised (naively) that there was no way I could do that. They are not Al Jazeera. It doesn't mean everything from them is bad journalism but it has the imprimatur of the CCP.
